Claymation Reflection Essay

For the couple months my 8th grade English/social studies class has been working on a claymation movie. Each student was partnered up with one other student and they were required to make movie about an explorer of their choice. The main focus of this project was for the students to learn about history and inform the public too. Each movie was made up of 7 scenes. I did my project with Max Correl. We studied Christopher Columbus. This is what I thought of the project.

This project was full of fun things. One of my favorite things I did while working on this project was making the clay people. I liked making the clay people because I like being creative. I also like making the clay people because it is fun playing with clay. I got colorful clay at the craft store so my people would have nice looking clothes. Although working with clay was very fun, I also liked taking the pictures. I liked taking the pictures because it was fun deciding what the people and things should do. Adding music to my video was also one of the most fun things I did. I like this because it was interesting trying to find music that was just right for our movie. I think my partner and I got the music just right.

Though this project had a lot of fun parts, there were a lot of difficult parts too. One of the most difficult things was trying to hold the camera still. This was hard because every time we would press the picture button, the camera would move. Holding the camera still was also hard because when you would reach to move the clay, you might bump into the camera a little bit. My partner and I resolved this problem by mounting the camera to the table with lots of clay. After that the camera barley moved. Another difficult thing was arranging the different clips in each scene. This was not as hard as it was time consuming. This was hard because you might have a clip that repeats twice and you would have to figure out where to move each group of pictures and where the beginning and end of each clip is. Besides all of the difficulties, it was still a fun project.

Through the process of making this claymation, I learned a few things. One thing I learned is that if you devote your self to finishing something, it will pay off in the end. This is probably the most important thing I learned. I learned this because I spent about 3 weeks of staying after just to try to finish on time. I spent so much time after school because I didn't get a good start on the project and I started to fall behind. Now, I am very proud of my project because I worked so hard on it. I also learned to respect my mom more. I learned this because she was willing to pick me up every day after school. I am very greatfull of my mom. That was what I learned by doing this claymation

This calymation was a very interesting experience. This was a very big project and I spent many days after school working on it. I am just glad that it is over and it is a high quality project. You can watch my video above. Please comment!
